Built-ins separate a room that works from one that feels finished. A well-designed wall unit does not just hold books and a television. It defines the architecture of the space and gives every surface a purpose, though the effect is most obvious in rooms where the cabinetry uses the full ceiling height. As a result, the room feels like someone thought it through from the start rather than furnished it piece by piece over time.

Forma builds built-in cabinetry for living rooms, libraries, entryways, home offices, and anywhere a space needs structure. Because we fabricate in-house, every piece fits the exact dimensions of the room. We account for ceiling height, wall conditions, and any architectural details that need to be worked around. We do not adapt stock units. Instead, we build to the space from the start. That difference shows every time someone walks into the room. In contrast to off-the-shelf solutions, custom cabinetry uses the full height, width, and depth available rather than leaving gaps at the edges.

A built-in does not look like furniture placed against a wall. It looks like the wall was always supposed to include it.

What we build

01

Living room wall units

Full-height media walls with integrated display shelving and concealed storage. We design them to anchor the room, so the television does not become the focal point by default. Furthermore, the concealed storage keeps the wall clean even when the unit is full. In addition, we integrate cable management so there are no visible wires behind the screen.

02

Library built-ins

Floor-to-ceiling bookshelves in any finish, with integrated lighting, ladder tracks, and display sections designed into the unit from the start. Because everything goes in during fabrication, nothing looks added on. The ladder track also disappears when not in use rather than sitting in front of the books.

03

Entryway cabinetry

Mudroom storage, bench seating with concealed cubbies, and coat storage we build to the exact footprint of your entry. The goal is functional storage that does not look like a storage unit, yet still holds everything a family uses at the door. In addition, the bench height and cubby depth relate to the people using the space rather than a standard spec. For example, a house with young children gets a lower coat hook rail than an adult-only household.

04

Bar and serving cabinetry

Integrated bar units with wine storage, glassware display, and countertop surfaces. We build them as part of the room. As a result, they look like they belong rather than like furniture that happens to hold bottles.

05

Fireplace surrounds

Built-in cabinetry flanking a fireplace, with shelving and storage columns that frame the space. Because the proportions we design around the fireplace, the room gets a proper focal point.

06

Staircase millwork

Under-stair storage, wainscotting, and panelling that put dead space to work. In many homes, the staircase area is the best opportunity for built-in storage that goes unnoticed. Specifically, a series of pull-out drawers under a stair run can hold more than a typical wardrobe while taking up space that previously held nothing. Furthermore, the millwork that faces the staircase can match the panelling elsewhere in the house, so the space reads as part of the design rather than a separate storage decision.
