Architectural millwork separates a finished home from a well-constructed one. Crown moulding at the right scale, wall panelling with the right reveal, a coffered ceiling proportioned to the room. These details are quiet when professionals execute them well. However, when they are off in scale or proportion, they draw attention to themselves for the wrong reason.
Forma fabricates architectural millwork in-house at our Vaughan facility. Since we are already in the room doing kitchens and built-ins, extending into trim and panelling is a natural continuation of the same project. Also, it means the schedule for the millwork coordinates with the cabinetry installation rather than requiring a separate mobilisation. In addition, the millwork is designed to relate to the cabinetry rather than exist alongside it as a separate decision made by a different company.
Millwork earns its place by what it does to the room, not by how much of it there is.
What we fabricate
Shaker, board-and-batten, raised panel, or flat panel profiles designed to the specific proportions of your room. Because the height relates to the doors and windows in the space, it looks intentional rather than applied. It also sits at a height that the chair rail or window sill reinforces rather than cuts across.
Custom profiles scaled to ceiling height and room volume. We select or fabricate the profile for the specific context. For that reason, the result reads as part of the room rather than something that got added at the end.
Beam and coffer systems designed to the grid of the room. When the proportions work with the space, the ceiling feels intentional. However, when they do not, it reads as a template applied without thought. So the grid spacing, beam depth, and coffer inset are all specific to the room rather than borrowed from a catalogue.
Traditional and contemporary wainscot profiles installed at heights that relate to the doors, windows, and other fixed elements in the room. The height is specific to your space, not a standard number. So the top rail of the wainscot lines up with the window sill or door casing rather than floating at an unrelated height.
Custom casing profiles that tie all openings in a home together. Because the profile is consistent across every opening, the house reads as designed rather than assembled from whatever was available. In other words, consistency across the small details is what makes the whole feel considered.
Fluted panels, slat walls, and custom relief work that give a room a focal point. We design them to work with the room’s light and proportion. Consequently, the wall earns its place rather than just filling it. Also, the depth of the relief is calibrated to the scale of the room so it reads as texture rather than interruption.
